The lifecycle of computer equipment
For 12 years now, Green Machine has led the way in circular computing. We’re passionate about the environment and we want to see technology being reused by the people who can’t necessarily afford something brand new.
We are committed to proper e-waste recycling and disposal. Our accreditations are proof that we handle both data and waste materials in a safe and environmentally friendly way. We repair and reuse absolutely everything we can (down to screws and office furniture), and partner with a number of charities to rehome useful hardware. Working with a refinery, we break down irreparable IT equipment to their core materials, so that these can be melted down and reused.
Green Machine works with businesses of all kinds and sizes. We’re able to relieve you of your unwanted electronics, whilst ensuring that those devices have the smallest impact on the environment possible. Many of our customers have very sensitive data, so we take great care in erasing all data from every device we collect. Once your collection has been wiped and processed, we will provide you with a certificate as proof of secure data destruction for your records. We can also provide organisations with a Co2 certificate which breaks down the emissions saved by recycling your equipment and the impact that makes on the planet; this is especially useful to any businesses looking to reduce and monitor their carbon footprint.
We breathe new life into old devices, donating them to people in need or making them available to end users at affordable prices. Every machine that we reuse saves pollution. In fact, last year we reduced Co2 emissions (or equivalent) by 1224 metric tonnes. To generate this amount of greenhouse gases, you would have to drive an average petrol car for over 3 million miles.
While collecting and diverting this equipment, we’ve been able to refurbish thousands of devices which we’ve then donated to schools, charities and non-profit organisations across the UK. Green Machine Computers recognise the social inequalities perpetuated by the digital divide. Through partnerships with schools, charities, and non-profit organisations, we donate refurbished devices to disadvantaged communities. By securely wiping and restoring unwanted technology, we can rehome devices with people in need who can utilise them for educational, employment, and social opportunities. Our donations have supported a wide variety of people, from refugees to local youth groups, from women’s shelters to children’s hospices. Our work has ensured that all of that ‘waste’, has not been wasted.
